Originating in Mexico, Día de los Muertos is a ritual dating back 3000 years. It is a two-day festival for family and friends to come together to honour and celebrate the lives of their loved ones who have passed away. Their belief is that at midnight on October 31, the spirits of loved ones can come down to enjoy the festivities that are prepared especially for them.
One of the biggest traditions of the festival is creating an offering of the favourite foods of their loved ones. The key purpose of this custom is a reminder of good memories and to show their loved ones that they are not forgotten.
This social evening viz Zoom is a chance for us to come together and share stories about our loved ones, the stories that made us laugh, the things that drove us crazy and everything in between.
It is a chance to celebrate the things that made each of them special, with people who truly understand the joy in being able to talk about our children, our brothers and sisters and our grandchildren.
Have a photo that can be shared on screen.
Think of a plate of food to talk about that is the one thing you think of when you think of your child’s, sibling’s or grandchild’s favourite food.
Last year, we had such a variety of food including sushi, lemon meringue tarts, pizza, chips, cookies and cream ice-cream just to list a few!
All family and friends welcome!
