Originating in Mexico, Día de los Muertos is a ritual dating back 3000 years. It is a two-day festival for family and friends to come together to honour and celebrate the lives of their loved ones who have passed away. Their belief is that at midnight on October 31, the spirits of loved ones can come down to enjoy the festivities that are prepared especially for them.

One of the biggest traditions of the festival is creating an offering of the favourite foods of their loved ones. The key purpose of this custom is a reminder of good memories and to show their loved ones that they are not forgotten.

This social evening at the centre is a chance for us to come together and share stories about our loved ones, the stories that made us laugh, the things that drove us crazy and everything in between.

It is a chance to celebrate the things that made each of them special, with people who truly understand the joy in being able to talk about our children, our siblings, and our grandchildren.

Bring a photo that can be pinned up on a garland (not in a frame).

Bring a plate of food to share that is the one thing you think of when you think of your child’s, sibling’s or grandchild’s favourite food. At previous year’s events we have had quiche, chips, donuts, pies, cakes and even a roast!

Enjoy a glass of Sangria and experience a different culture’s way of honouring their loved ones.
