The Compassionate Friends Victoria has two
specific purposes which encapsulates its vision. Firstly,
to assist parents & siblings in the rebuilding of their
lives after the death of their loved one and to support their
efforts to achieve physical, emotional and mental health.
Secondly, to provide information and education about bereaved
parents and siblings. The objective is to help those in their
community, including family, friends, employers, co-workers
and professionals, to be supportive.
Essentially we are committed to raising awareness in the general
community about the very profound impact of grief on an individual
and the ways in which we can all provide compassionate care
and support. We see it as critical to the fulfilment of our
vision that we communicate this message to as wide an audience
as possible and therefore we provide free presentations to
any employer who feels that their organisation could benefit.
The Compassionate Friends is served
by a strong and committed workforce of volunteers, all of
whom have specific skills that they dedicate to our work.
A number of volunteers are trained in public speaking as
well as the specifics of our Organisation. Our speakers
then have been thoroughly trained to answer questions regarding
parental and sibling grief not from a text book model, but
from an experiential viewpoint where the speaker has travelled
the journey.
In general we aim to present to a range of
different markets including:
· Health
· Welfare
· Education
· Corporate
We offer two different packages, one that is
designed to give basic hints in supporting the bereaved
as well as outlining the services that we offer. The second
package offers more in depth information on how to support
those who are bereaved, in terms of how to care and what
to say to them.
